The Yarn of the Month for July is Cilantro by Nashua.   We sold Cilantro the first year it came out and loved it.  Now, we consider it a summer staple.  A cotton blend with a touch of stretch, Cilantro has nice loft and a springy-ness to it that makes it ideal for both adult and children’s clothing.  Cilantro has 136 yds, and knits at 4-4.5 st/inch on an 8-9US needle.  Enjoy Cilantro during the month of July at 10% discount.

The Yarn of the Month for June is Rowan's Summer Tweed. It combines the luxury of silk (70%) with the durability of cotton (30%), this is a perfect all year round yarn. The nebs of tonal colors create a wonderful textural look in the knitted fabric making this a unique knit for both look and feel. Summer Tweed has excellent pattern support; it is a favorite of knitwear designers Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably. Summer Tweed knits at 4 st/inch on a US8, and has 118 yards. The Yarn of the Month for May is Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece.  Made in the USA, Cotton Fleece is a soft and resilient blend of 80% pima cotton, 20% wool.  Its unique plied cabled yarn provides a beautiful texture and drape for every knitted garment.  Each skein contains 215 yds. and knits at 5 st./in on a US 6 needle.  We think Cotton Fleece is a perfect year round yarn, especially around these parts.  The colors are wonderful and vibrant! The Kit of the Month is Chris Bylsma’s wonderful Midsummer’s Aran.  This twist on a traditional aran is made with cables and drop stitches. The Midsummer’s Aran is one of our most popular patterns. The Yarn of the Month for April is Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool.  Silky Wool is a beautifiul blend of 45% wool, 35% silk, and 20% nylon that drapes beautifully and is very economical.  Each 50 gram skein of Silky Wool has 192 yards and knits at a gauge of 5.5 stitches to the inch on a US 6 needle.  Silky Wool is a fantastic yarn for sweaters and shawls.

The 1st Annual Spring Festival takes place this coming weekend at the Village Shops at Kingsmill! The Festival will benefit the Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters. The fun starts Sunday, March 21, at 1:00pm. Doraldos Italian Restaurant will hold a Ravioli Eating Contest at 3:00pm, and will host a Special Guest, Julian Pavone, the amazing 5 year old drummer who has appeared on Oprah and can be found on YouTube and his own website.
The Village Shops merchants, like The Wine and Cheese Shop, High Cotton, Love2Quilt and KNITTING SISTERS will also be found under a Giant Tent with special items for sale to support CHKD. If you are in the area come on by and join in the fun all for a good cause!

The Yarn of the Month for Februray is Karabella Aurora 8.  Aurora 8 was our first Yarn of the Month several years ago when we started the program.  I feel like I should have a bumper sticker that says,  I ♥Aurora 8.  It has been and continues to be my desert island yarn.   That and a pair of needles (ok, and maybe a self-charging Ipod) would be all that I’d need.  So many of you learned about the joys of Aurora 8 when we first introduced it.  Since then, it has become one of our best-selling yarns. Now, I want the rest of you to appreciate it as much as we do! 

Aurora 8 is a scrumptious worsted weight superwash merino yarn.  Merino is the softest of the wool categories, so Aurora 8 feels like butter when you knit it and feels like heaven next to your skin. A skein is 98 yards and knits at a gauge of 4.5 stitches to the inch on a US 8 needle.   

Aurora 8 comes in dozens of beautiful solid colors and several mélanges.  Once you have enjoyed the luxury of working with Aurora 8, I predict you will want to knit with it forever!  Enjoy Aurora 8 during the month of February at a 10% discount.
